About the Riverland Region

Loxton resides in the Riverland region of South Australia, lying adjacent to the Murray River. It sits close to the Victorian border, and the main point of access is via the Sturt Highway, running directly to Mildura (the closest large city). Agriculture is the primary industry of the area.

About the Opportunity

Due to growth within the business, Fruit Doctors has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Agronomist to join their team in Loxton, SA, on a full-time basis.

In this role the successful candidate will initially be responsible for assisting Fruit Doctor’s consultants with field monitoring and reporting (e.g. developing competency in identifying key pests, diseases and beneficial insects; becoming familiar with their biology and life cycles; learning and becoming competent with monitoring techniques and recording; becoming familiar with action thresholds and management strategies; collecting soil and tissue samples for lab analysis).

As your knowledge of cropping systems and insect interactions develops the role will be expanded (within the context of a team) to include:

  • The management of a group of clients on behalf of Fruit Doctors (provide the primary point of contact and become the principle consultant);
  • The delivery of agronomy services (crop nutrition & management);
  • Participating in & helping to direct research activities as well as assisting with the adaption of research into farm practices; and
  • Taking an active role in helping to set and fulfil business goals (strategic planning & implementation along with the leadership group).

About You

To be successful you will need to have qualifications in agriculture or a related science field. The following attributes, skills and experiences are highly regarded:

  • Methodical and scientifically minded;
  • Eye for detail;
  • Computer Literate;
  • Rural living experience;
  • Work experience on a horticultural or agricultural property or as an agronomist;
  • Experience and knowledge in integrated pest management, entomology, soil and crop nutrition science;
  • Enjoy working outdoors, prepared to work in all weather conditions and be capable of handling the physical aspects of the role;
  • Ability to be self-directed;
  • Prepared to work overtime hours when required; and
  • Demonstrate integrity.
