About Parnngurr

Established 30 years ago, Parnngurr Community School supports 35 students within the local community, currently ranging from Years 1 to 12. With pristine grounds, lush with greenery, the school is situated in a friendly community 370km east of Newman.

Committed to providing diverse pathways, the school focuses on creating and fostering opportunities for their students in Year 10 and beyond, including movement into trade qualifications or continuing on to completion of Year 12.

A typical day at the school involves a combination of intensive literacy and numeracy learning in the first part of the day, and practical activities such as arts and sports in the afternoons, alongside regular on-country learning with students.

About the Opportunity

Due to an influx of students in the Early Childhood years, Parnngurr Community School is now looking for an energetic Early Childhood/Primary School Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis.

Working alongside a dedicated team of teachers and Martu teaching assistants, you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of education programs for students between four and eight years old (Kindergarten to Year 2).

To be eligible for this role you will need to be registered, or eligible for registration, in WA, and have a recognised early childhood qualification. Some of these pathways could include:

  • A four year Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood, Kindergarten to Year 6, or 0-8 years Early Childhood Education/Childcare);
  • A three year degree, followed by a Graduate Diploma or Master of Teaching specialising in early childhood education; or
  • A TRBWA recognised primary teaching degree and an ACECQA approved diploma level (or higher) education and care qualification.

Graduates who are looking to make a difference and experience a new and exciting opportunity are encouraged to apply, with the requirement to commit to a minimum of twelve months.

It's important that you have an understanding of Indigenous culture, are willing to work with the community, and are aware of the challenges in Indigenous learning contexts. You'll be willing to take initiative and bring creative ideas to the role, able to plan and deliver programs that involve both indoor and outdoor activities.

Finally, you will work well in a team; able to function effectively in an environment that is collaborative, reflective, and ever-changing.

About the Benefits

This is a rare, exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a remote Indigenous community.

You will be supported in the move with Relocation Assistance, and provided with free, fully-furnished accommodation, including electricity, as well as Foxtel TV and internet.

For your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration, based on the award wage, plus super and a range of other benefits, including:

  • An incentive bonus after twelve months;
  • Tax exemption (to be discussed further);
  • Remote location allowance;
  • Two single fights between Newman and Perth per year; and
  • Great parental and personal leave benefits.

The community is welcoming to all newcomers, and, although remote, the community receives mail twice a week and is home to a general store, community office, oval, and a modern health clinic, with a nurse stationed 24 hours, and doctors or specialists visiting regularly. Halfway through each term, the school participates in a 'wellbeing break', by travelling to Newman to get supplies for the second half of the term. This trip includes accommodation and provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy everything Newman has to offer.

This is an incredible opportunity to engage and inspire remarkable children in an unforgettable teaching experience in the real Australia - Apply Now!

About Parnngurr Community School

Parnngurr is a remote West Australian Indigenous Community located 370kms East of Newman, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. This is a spacious landscape of red sand, spinifex plains, honey grevillia and desert oaks under an azure sky. It is the home of 140 Martu people whose ancestors have been here since the beginning of the Dreaming. The community is built in the shadow of twin hills with particular significance to Martu, at the southern end of the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) National Park.
