About the Opportunity

MoneyMob Talkabout is currently looking for a full-time Community Development and Financial Education Team Leader to join their team in Alice Springs, NT, with extensive remote travel to APY Lands. This role is being offered on a fixed term contract to 30 June 2021, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.

Reporting to the Community Service and Practice Manager, this is a hands-on role that will see you responsible for the training and ongoing support of Financial Capability and No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) staff, as well as case managing clients as necessary.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Recruitment, leadership, supervision support and training of MoneyMob’s financial capability and NILS staff;
  • Ensuring staff are properly inducted, and have a work plan which supports them to meet required contract KPIs;
  • Developing and delivering community education and information sessions on a range of financial management topics;
  • Providing pastoral care for staff, to assist with personal or health issues impacting on their work, within reasonable limits;
  • Assisting clients to undertake basic financial tasks or transactions, with an emphasis on teaching them the skills to become self-reliant;
  • Identifying any training needs, assisting with the development and review of in-house training programs; and
  • Coordinating external training as required, including ensuring staff apply for appropriate travel allowances, have accommodation organised and are aware of their rights, obligations and appropriate behaviour when travelling.

You will also be overseeing MoneyMob's new Whitegoods for Wellness project, which aims to assist at least 100 Anangu households to acquire a fridge and/or washing machine through a subsidised NILS loan. These items of “health hardware” are considered essential for healthy living and the prevention of diseases such as scabies and skin sores, which can lead to chronic diseases such as kidney failure later in life. NILS loans are a safe and supported way for people to acquire these goods.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have a background in Financial Counselling or capability work, with a qualification in one of these areas. A hands-on and supportive leader, you will have demonstrated experience in motivating and developing a small team to achieve high performance results. Specific experience leading Indigenous team members would be highly regarded, as would knowledge of/experience in trauma informed case work.

Experience working in remote areas and in a cross-cultural context will be essential. You will bring an open-minded, community-focused approach, and be able to juggle the needs of multiple stakeholders, adapting to any changes or unforeseen issues that may occur. Finally, you will be genuinely passionate about achieving positive outcomes for the communities that MoneyMob supports. You will not be afraid to do assertive outreach, including (where safe and welcome) going into people's houses. The whitegoods project will see you supporting these households in getting appliances installed, and you'll be happy to roll up your sleeves and get involved with some joint cooking, cleaning or celebration where possible.

Please Note: This position requires frequent travel via 4WD vehicle, spending blocks of time living away from home. To be eligible for consideration, you must hold a current Driver's Licence and be comfortable driving 4WD vehicles on remote roads, sometimes independently.
