About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to using its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community, and to empower those affected by it. Working from a gendered analysis that recognises women and children as bearing the brunt of this violence, they support clients to live life free from the impact and threat of violence in their lives, by providing space and validation of their experiences through a platform of safety and empowerment.

Established in 1987, CRDVS has grown from a small team of volunteers to become one of the first four Regional Domestic Violence Services to receive funding from the Queensland government in 1992. Led by a Board and with 25 staff, the organisation provides a free, confidential and highly professional service for family members who are currently or who have experienced domestic and family violence.

The service is staffed by a close-knit team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support and training. Their vision is clear, and at the heart of everything they do:

About the Opportunity

Due to recent government funding, Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) has a rewarding opportunity for a Domestic Violence Resource Coordinator to join their team in Cairns, QLD on fixed term contract until 30th June 2021. This is part-time role (38 hours/fortnight), flexible depending on your needs.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be leading the Cairns Local Support Coordinator Service to improve inter-agency collaboration and better respond to high risk individuals and families impacted by domestic and family violence, as well as providing specialist expertise or training as required, to support the professional development of workers and other services in the local area.

Your other duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Building and maintaining strong links and networks with other organisations to facilitate an effective Cairns LSC;
  • Assisting the local service sector to develop integrated case coordination, facilitate streamlined referral pathways, and increase community awareness;
  • Reporting on the delivery of integrated response work on ChilliDB and the OASIS report proforma;
  • Developing appropriate service and programs to meet identified organisational and community needs;
  • Participating in the review, evaluation and development of related organisational policies; and
  • Monitoring any legislative or policy developments related to domestic violence, maintaining knowledge of current and emerging trends or practices.

About You

To be successful, you will need demonstrated experience in service coordination or a similar role, with a tertiary qualification in a behavioural/social science related field.

With a background in crisis intervention and an in-depth knowledge of trauma-informed counselling frameworks, you will have a a strong understanding of the effects, causes, social context and responses to domestic violence, including an appreciation of cultural differences and the needs of diverse groups.

Well developed interpersonal and communication skills will be key to your success, allowing you to work effectively with a range of organisations and stakeholders. A highly skilled negotiator, you will be able to adapt your approach to the needs of each individual, remaining respectful and constructive with any advice or feedback.

With strong problem-solving skills and a strategic focus, you'll be able to lead by example and effectively inspire others to truly get 'on board' with any changes or potential improvements.

You will also need strong organisational skills, and be proficient in a range of basic computer software, including Microsoft Office, and comfortable learning new systems or programs.

Finally, you will be genuinely passionate about the services that CRDVS provides, committed to supporting an organisation that both empowers women and children, who bear the brunt of domestic violence, and actively works to address and reduce violence in Cairns and surrounding communities.

Please note: You will need a current driver's licence, and hold (or be willing and eligible to obtain) a Working With Children Card, and a formal Police criminal history check.
