More specifically, some of your key duties will include:
- Planning and conducting individual and group activities to meet young people's needs and goals;
- Supporting and managing young people's behaviours in line with Action Behaviour Support plans;
- Using daily task routines to provide hands-on training of life skills such as but not limited to cooking, budgeting, personal care etc;
- Advocating on behalf of individuals and families to ensure that services accessed and provided are relevant, flexible and accessible;
- Completing administrative duties, petty cash, regular case notes, timesheets and incident reports; and
- Working with young people to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the house.
About You
To be successful, you will need to either hold or be willing to commence a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline.
Whilst experience with Residential Youth Care would be highly regarded, IFYS is open to candidates from industries with similar transferrable skills, including disability care, nursing, education, or early childhood.
You will have a good understanding of the role of community organisations within the youth and community sector, as well as the issues related to young people living in out of home care. You'll have excellent interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with young people whilst tailoring your approach to a wide range of ages, and effectively negotiate, mediate and resolve conflicts confidently and calmly.
You will be genuinely interested in making a positive difference in the lives of the children or young persons in your care, supporting them to heal from trauma and empowering them to develop independence, whilst maintaining a strong commitment to your own self-care.
Please note: As of August 31st 2020 it is a legal requirement that you hold a valid Blue Card prior to commencing work in this field. You will also need to have, or be willing and eligible to obtain, a Yellow Card and LCS2 Police Check, and hold a current, unrestricted driver's license.
