About the Organisation

Woodside Cheese Wrights is an established and highly respected specialist cheese producer. The company has strong branding within Australia, with distributors based in each State and Territory. Both goat and cow milk cheeses are produced, although goat makes up the bulk of production.

Over 20 varieties of cheese are made (some in variable forms and sizes) of which a number are seasonal. The major products are Edith (ashed white mould goat), Goat Curd and Chevre and, in the cow milk range, Charleston and McLaren.

Milk is supplied by a number of producers within a 50km radius of the factory, which was recently upgraded.

Based in the Adelaide Hills, the factory employs six staff, with a number of employees also operating the factory sales outlet next door.

Many of Woodside Cheese Wrights' cheeses have won gold medals and trophies at shows throughout Australia, including a Grand Dairy Award for Edith. The business has also won a range of awards, including four Premiers Food Awards.

About the Opportunity

Woodside Cheese Wrights has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Cheesemaker to join their team in a hands-on cheese production role!

The main aim of this role is to make, care for and mature all cheeses produced by the company. You will also be responsible for managing the cheesemaking team and processes to ensure the benchmark qualities are achieved and advanced.

In this role, you will bring your extensive skills to produce Woodside Cheese Wright's award-winning recipes.

Some of your specific duties will include:

  • Liaising with milk producers to ensure appropriate standards and milk supply are maintained;
  • Establishing with the packaging supervisor the appropriate volumes of various cheeses to be produced to satisfy customer demand;
  • Maintaining and adhering to all HACCP requirements and accreditation audits by the SA Dairy Authority;
  • Following all production procedures as outlined in the Good Cheese Making Procedures Manual and HACCP Manual;
  • Arranging appropriate staff to assist in successful completion of daily cheesemaking;
  • Maintaining an inventory control system on all stock items and advising of order requirements;
  • Establishing costs of production and yields of each cheese; and
  • Learning ongoing cheesemaking skills and attending appropriate courses and seminars.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be an experienced Cheesemaker with excellent communication, leadership, management and organisational skills. In addition, you will be self-motivated and results-driven with the ability to work autonomously or in a team environment. Plus, you will have effective numeracy, financial and analytical skills. The successful candidate will also hold a current driver's licence.
