About the Project
The Operations and Maintenance business in Australia has a number of alliance maintenance contracts including the Pilbara Iron Alliance which is undertaken by Fluor Rail Services (FRS), a Fluor company for the provision of rail maintenance services. The culture established within this alliance is honest, open with timely sharing of information and a successful track record of developing and implementing new ideas in order to generate mutual win - win outcomes.
FRS operating under the Operations and Maintenance business line in Australia is proud to have a long established project in the Pilbara region of W.A. maintaining, upgrading and installing heavy tonnage railway systems for the largest privately owned rail infrastructure in Australia. A mechanical workforce is also employed to maintain vehicles, mobile plant and sophisticated track maintenance and re-rail equipment used on the railway line.
This project has been operating since 1968, recently celebrating 40 years of alliance between the two companies. A remotely located team of approximately 200 are involved in maintaining the 1600+klms of railway track from Karratha to Tom Price and surrounding areas.
About the Opportunity
Fluor Rail Services has an exciting opportunities for a number of Rail Track Forepersons / Supervisors to join their team, based in Dampier, WA.
Within this role you will assist and support the Track Superintendent in monitoring and coordinating the effective execution of track maintenance, construction and re-rail and operations support activities. Specifically, you will define the objectives, and support the Dampier team technically and personally, with communication, goals and feedback.
Some of the position's day to day responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring work is carried out in an efficient and safe manner by coordinating daily work schedules with the customer's operations, including personnel deployment, materials coordination and information availability;
- Leading and supervising teams in construction, rail replacement and maintenance of track;
- Identifying training requirements and implementing training programs;
- Performing diagnostics of equipment failures and recommending solutions to solving equipment reliability problems;
- Recruitment of personnel for track maintenance;
- Achieving business goals through coaching, mentoring, and performance management of personnel;
- Monitoring Actions on site improvement plans;
- Improving service results by developing and implementing work process improvements for track maintenance;
- Using and maintaining site-specific operational systems; and
- Other duties as required from time to time as directed by the Track Superintendent.
This position requires a candidate with significant prior experience within rail maintenance or a similar heavy industry. You will have the leadership and communication skills to promote close and effective integration of efforts between work groups on a site, and take responsibility to ensure that work is completed safely and efficiently.
The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to make decisions based on identifying and understanding issues, problems and opportunities. You will be a clear communicator, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
Due to the remoteness of the location, the roles are fly in and fly out of Perth or Brisbane.
