About the Opportunity

Yura Yungi Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (YYMS) is currently looking for an experienced General Practitioner to join their team. This is a full-time role, based mainly in their Halls Creek clinic, conducting fortnightly clinic at Ringer Soak Community, returning that same day.

Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer, you will be providing patient-centred primary health care addressing the needs of clients and patients at Halls Creek and surrounding remote communities.

More specifically, you will be:

  • Providing skilled health assessment, diagnosis and treatment services;
  • Providing clinical service to clients within generic or specific chronic disease areas;
  • Providing clinical leadership to medical and allied health staff;
  • Liaising with relevant clinical staff and other service providers; 
  • Providing care via home visits and Residential Aged Care visits as requested;
  • Assisting with training and mentorship of staff where necessary, particularly to empower and up-skill Aboriginal Health Workers and other staff; and
  • Preparing and referring patients for specialist visits.

Please note: Applicants must currently reside within Australia with full Australian working rights. 

About You

To be considered for this position you will be recognised by AHPRA as a Registered General Practitioner, with demonstrated post-graduate experience related to remote primary health care and Aboriginal health.

YYMS is looking for candidates who have a genuine passion for improving Aboriginal health, and the ability to effectively build and maintain relationships with the local community.

You will have demonstrated experience working in remote communities, with a strong understanding of health issues in these areas, and the willingness to transfer knowledge and skills to Aboriginal health care workers building their skills and capabilities. 

You will need to be able to work both collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team and understand the need for cultural sensitivity working with a diverse team and patients.

Please note: The successful candidate will require a current 'C' class drivers licence, and pass a National Police Clearance prior to commencement.
