About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Financial Capability Worker to join LC's Financial Capability and Wellbeing team in Alice Springs, NT.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will primary be responsible for helping people to make informed choices about their financial position, building long-term capabilities to budget and manage their money and providing emergency relief to clients in need. 

Working predominantly from the Alice Springs office, with some travel to surrounding remote communities and the duties include;

  • Provide one on one budget support to individuals to coach clients in financial literacy;
  • Determine the client's financial situation and assess their needs;
  • Assist families at risk of homelessness to manage their finances and household expenses to retain their accommodation;
  • Ensure clients are referred to appropriate support services and maintain an up to date contacts list of referral sources;
  • Monitor and review Case/Action Plans with clients to support and encourage greater self reliance; and
  • Occasional day trips and weeklong trips from Monday to Friday, arriving back in Alice Springs on weekends.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally hold a Cert III or higher in Community Services. 

The successful candidate will also have solid financial knowledge, an understanding of physical and electronic record keeping as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse client base. 

You will have a solid understanding of Central Australian Indigenous culture and a high level of communication skills both written and verbal, contributing to your ability to connect and work within Indigenous communities. 

While experience working within Indigenous Communities and a First Aid Certificate is desirable, it is not essential. 

A true team player, you will possess a high level of empathy and be flexible in your delivery of training material dependant on person and situation. 

Please note: The successful candidate must possess an unrestricted manual drivers license, currently hold or be able to obtain an Ochre Card and consent to a National Criminal History Record Check.

Relocation assistance is available, up to $2,000 for eligible candidates, as well as 5 weeks annual leave.

If an applicant has not previously completed the Financial Literacy Education Skill Set, LC will support them in its completion within the first three months of employment.
