About the Opportunity

Tenterfield Shire Council currently has an integral opportunity for a Horticulture Landscape Coordinator to join their team in Tenterfield, NSW on a full-time ongoing basis.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the coordination of the the establishment, maintenance and care of Councils parks, gardens, sportsgrounds and other related land/streetscapes that ensures strong visual, attractive and quality impact and generates positive responses from the Shire community, residents and visitors.

More specifically, your day to day duties will encompass, but will not be confined to:

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of parks operational works within predetermined timeframes, quality and targets;
  • Assist in tree maintenance and general arboriculture duties, arrange attractive floral/colour displays and landscaping;
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the budgets within the Parks & Gardens team, including assistance in the preparation of annual budgets;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of operational business plans that support Council’s corporate and management plans;
  • Monitor and review performance of the Parks & Gardens team against set targets and objectives, scheduling/programming of works, communication of outcomes and implementation of corrective actions; and
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of 7 employees using performance management and development processes annually.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Open space or Landscaping, or extensive demonstrated experience in a similar role.

An AQF Level 5 Arborist qualification, design/drawing skills and previous local government experience will be highly regarded. As you will be providing leadership to 7 direct reports, demonstrated supervisory experience will be integral to your success.

As an experienced professional, you will be confident in your ability to work in a team environment with all Council business units. An influential decision-maker and confident negotiator, you will have a strong understanding of council constraints, and the ability to live, work and be part of a small community.

You will have a high level of computer literacy with the ability to use databases, spreadsheets and word-processing applications. As a strong communicator, you will be comfortable working out of the office, developing relationships with staff and Council stakeholders at all levels on a daily basis.

Above all, your self-drive and determination to ensure both safety and quality are at the forefront of Council operations, as it continues to exist as an employer of choice within the community, will go a long way to ensuring your success in this position.
