About the Opportunity
Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Drug and Alcohol Program Coordinator (Aboriginal Identified) to join their dedicated team in Walgett.
As an integral part of the Murdi Paaki Drug and Alcohol Network, you will work closely with a team of specialist outreach workers to improve drug and alcohol service delivery in north and west NSW. You will have the opportunity throughout rural communities to provide essential outreach services.
Core duties:
- Deliver culturally sensitive alcohol and other drug clinical services and counselling;
- Coordinate with local services to support the development of community programs;
- Provide expert advice, training and supervision to drug and alcohol trainees;
- Develop systems for cross-agency coordination to provide seamless pathways to care;
- Provide case consultation and assisting with strategic planning to aid growth; and
- Identify opportunities for organisation development and service improvement.
About You
To be successful in this vital and rewarding position, you will have a Cert IV or higher in a field relevant to Drug and Alcohol counselling. Experience or education in training, program management, or community service, or counselling will also be highly beneficial and help you hit the ground running in your new role.
Importantly, you will be committed to helping individuals find ways of dealing with their addiction, be it by way of counselling or being admitted into a rehabilitation centre, or simply by just having someone there to support them. You will have a compassionate nature and a non-judgmental attitude, as well as an understanding of the challenges facing Aboriginal communities and an unwavering dedication to helping these communities find solutions.
This is a pivotal hands-on role, and accordingly, your ability to communicate effectively, to solve problems and organise your time efficiently will be paramount to your success. Furthermore, you will need the capacity to inspire health trainees, negotiate with local service providers and forge positive links with external stakeholders.
