Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service - Empowering community, health and identity
WAMS not only provides healthcare, it helps educate and support Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in the community to care for their own health and improve their wellbeing, with many initiatives to help make healthy living more accessible. Their Healthy for Life program includes a market garden where clients and the community can have access to fresh fruit and vegetables grown on-site.
Services offered include public health, family health, sexual health, dental health, mental health and GP Clinical Services and a range of health programs, including drug and alcohol and limited health-related transport services.
WAMS have invested in state-of-the-art facilities that many urban locations lack. Staff and community members have access to a children's services area and a gymnasium, as well as a modern Chronic Diseases Building offering medical, optical, and dental care.

About the Opportunity
WAMS now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Community Health Coordinator to join their team in Walgett, NSW.
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, you will lead and oversee the Healthy for Life program for WAMS and surrounding medical centres. You will work to educate and build awareness, improving health outcomes in remote communities.
Core duties:
- Monitor the progress of the Healthy for Life implementation plan for any new service component
- Improve incidence of chronic illness through primary health care
- Coordinate with health care specialists from Sydney and other regional centres
- Work with Child and Maternal health to improve child mortality statistics
- Report on activities and KPI’s to funding bodies
- Conduct review processes including clinical audits, health system assessment and performance indicators to identify priorities for improvement
You will also have the opportunity to travel periodically to communities surrounding Walgett, and see breathtaking parts of Australia that many people never get to see.
About You
To thrive in your new role, you will need a Tertiary Nursing qualification or other suitable health qualification so that you have all the knowledge you need to successfully promote the Healthy for Life program.
You will be highly organised, proactive in your approach and willing to jump in and help all areas of the organisation as required. Your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders of all backgrounds will ensure your success.
Importantly, WAMS is looking for an empathetic, compassionate and responsible individual with an understanding of remote culture and willingness to be a part of a close community.

This salary package is inclusive of the following benefits:
