About the Opportunity

Victoria Daly Regional Council is now looking for a full-time Operations Supervisor to join their team in Katherine, NT.

This exciting and hands-on role is responsible for the operation of the Council's road train trucks, the transport of Council Assets and the operation of plant and equipment, as well as overseeing all council's waste management and transfer station facilities

You will work as part of a team to supervise work contracts throughout the council area to ensure works are delivered to a high standard, and within budget. You will also oversee all the waste management and transfer station facilities, undertaking maintenance and council works as necessary. This role will see you travelling around parts of rural NT that many never get the chance to experience, working with a variety of teams to achieve the best outcomes. 

Core duties:

  • Assist Council's Services Managers and Council Works team leaders to deliver community projects;
  • Communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders and contractors for positive outcomes for the council;
  • Ensure performance is reported to the director of operations accordingly;
  • Operate the council's road train truck to transport council assets to remote communities;
  • Assist with minor works and services and provide training / develop skill sets in the Parks and Gardens area; and
  • Travel to surrounded remote communities regularly.

About You

To be successful in this role you will hold relevant Heavy Plant Certificates including loader, grader, and backhoe. You will also hold a current Multi Combination driver's licence. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field will also be beneficial but is not essential. 

Additionally, you will have experience operating a road train, as well as in a site supervisor role. You may also have experience in waste management, but training can be provided to help you succeed in this area.  

This role is part of a collaborative team and often a number of stakeholders are involved in each project. As such, experience communicating effectively with staff, community members, and contractors to achieve positive outcomes is essential. You will also need to be comfortable communicating digitally, and possess basic computer literacy and experience with Microsoft office suite. 

You will need to be adaptable and flexible in this role, with the ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines, and focus on effective service delivery. Your work will take place in remote locations, so you will also need the ability to resolve issues and problems that arise while working in such regional locations. 

Experience working in remote areas is desirable, to enable you to work effectively within indigenous communities.

Please Note: A current Driver's Licence, Working with Children clearance and a criminal history check will be required prior to commencing in this role.
