About the organisation

The Robyn Jane Children’s Centre is a 70-place, not-for-profit incorporated body, overseen by a committee of management, providing high-quality long day care and kindergarten to families within the Healesville community. An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander program runs within the centre, with 12 funded places. The Boorai Program is a soft entry to childcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and offers a six hour, culturally specific program every Monday.

The Centre seeks to provide stimulating, positive experiences, and interactions for all children in care, fostering all aspects of their development.

In October 2018, the Centre received the highest rating of “Exceeding” in six areas of the National Quality Framework (NQF).

About the opportunity

The Robyn Jane Children's Centre currently has an opportunity for an Early Childhood Educator to work on a part-time basis in Healesville, Victoria, roughly a 1 hour drive from the Melbourne CBD.

Reporting to the Senior Centre Director and supervising the Boorai Program educators, you will primarily be responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of a developmentally and culturally appropriate program for individual children or groups.

More specifically, your day-to-day duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Leading the team educators to plan, implement, assess and review a high quality culturally appropriate educational program based on appropriate curriculum frameworks;
  • Ensuring staff, students, volunteers, and children utilise effective health and hygiene practices;
  • Working cooperatively, ethically, and respectfully with other staff and stakeholders associated with the Boorai program; and
  • Ensuring all practices are in accordance with the Reconciliation Action Plan, NQS and reflect the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Centre.

About you

To be considered for this role you will need a Diploma in Children's Services, a current First Aid Certificate (inclusive of Anaphylaxis and Asthma training) & a current Working with Children Check.

In addition to these qualifications, you will have a solid understanding of Indigenous culture and have working experience in childcare. Applicants with a background in general teaching will be highly regarded. 

Good interpersonal communication skills will be key to you being successful in this role, as you are required to effectively work in a team, reporting on matters and delivering and presenting outcomes to staff and other team members.

Other requirements include effective time management and a strong understanding of cultural care practices and relevant industry standards & codes of ethics.
