About the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMAC) is a not-for- profit organisation established in 2010 as an external accreditation entity by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

ANMAC helps protect the health and safety of the Australian Community through its role in:

  • Assessing and accrediting nursing and midwifery education programs under Australia's National Registration and Accreditation Scheme; and
  • Acting as the independent assessing authority authorised by the Department of Home Affairs to assess skills and qualifications of nurses and midwives seeking to migrate to Australia under the General Skilled Migration Program.

ANMAC also provides executive and secretariat support to the Australian Osteopathic Accreditation Council (AOAC) and to Health Education Services Australia (HESA) which provides services to the health education sector.

About the Opportunity

ANMAC has an opportunity for a Board & Committees Secretariat Officer to join their team in Canberra, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be primarily responsible for providing high level support to the CEO of ANMAC, Executive Officer of AOAC and the Managing Director of HESA.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Providing professional secretariat support to the Board and Committees of ANMAC, AOAC and HESA including co-ordination of meetings, development and quality assurance of agendas and briefing documents, recording of minutes, oversight of resulting actions, and record keeping and document management;
  • Preparing and coordinating confidential documentation to support the Board and Committee work programmes, including conducting research for briefings and background notes as required;
  • Developing effective networks and sound working relationships that are client focused and responsive to a range of stakeholders; and
  • Undertaking or assisting with a range of ad hoc administrative duties in an environment with changing and competing priorities.

About You

To be considered for this position you must have a Tertiary Qualification or diploma in a relevant discipline combined with 3+ years of demonstrated experience providing secretariat support to board and committees. Possessing previous secretariat experience in the not-for-profit sector and experience with software such as SharePoint & Diligent is also highly regarded.

You will require a demonstrated ability to forge and maintain productive working relationships, working pro-actively both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and apply judgement. To be able to do this you will need to be focused, willing to listen and do what's required for the benefit of the organisation and its stakeholders.

Demonstrated high-level planning, organising and coordination skills together with the ability to recommend and decide on appropriate action in an environment subject to work pressure, competing priorities, complexities and change under limited supervision are important in this role. Just as important are high-level communication skills with a strong customer service focus. This will allow you to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers and use feedback to improve services.

Importantly, ANMAC is looking for someone who is a well-polished and fast-learner, is highly professional and can demonstrate maturity and discretion whilst dealing with confidential documentation. Your capacity to plan, organise, schedule and deliver within a set time frame in a changing environment is a necessity in this role and will be critical to your success.
