About the Opportunities

Pegasus Care now has multiple opportunities for passionate and dedicated Youth Workers to join their team in Campbelltown and surrounding areas. These are casual positions in which you will be able to commit to a regular fortnightly roster with weekend availability. As this work also includes crisis accommodation, you will work across multiple site locations.

Working within a multidisciplinary team of other support workers, you will be responsible for creating a healing environment for children and young people residing in crisis or temporary residential care settings, providing trauma-informed care in line with case management and care planning. 

The programme under which you will work is based on the ARC Model and the work consists of supporting children/young people under child safety orders in a Trauma Recovery Programme environment. You will be working with children/young people to assist them recognise and work through their Trauma, and at the same time keep them safe. The aim of the programme is to successfully set the children/young people up to transition to an appropriate living environment in the future.

Core duties:

  • Provide care, support and training in accordance with relevant government legislation;
  • Understand the 23 Child Safe Standards and Trauma Informed approaches; 
  • Ensure all medication administration is undertaken according to legislation and procedure;
  • Promote a positive image of the child or young Person in the community;
  • Ensure that all services are provided in the least restrictive manner; and
  • Empower the child or young person to develop independence, make decisions, and participate as an active member of their community.

About You

We want to hear from you if you:

  • Have a Diploma in Community Services/Youth Work/Mental Health or equivalent industry related qualification. Students will not be considered
  • Have 6 months full time paid experience working with clients in a residential / out of home care setting in Australia
  • Proven experience of supporting youth within crisis/trauma/child safety
  • The ability to engage with all different personalities to provide support and encouragement
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Are happy to commit to a variety of different shifts (30+ hpw)
  • Are happy to travel to different locations as required
  • Are able to attend staff meetings/team meetings/staff development
  • Have completed NDIS Orientation Modules - ‘Safety & You’ and ‘Infection Control’

Prior to commencement, the successful candidates will hold (or be willing to obtain) the following:

  • A current Driver's License;
  • A current First Aid Certificate;
  • A current NDIS Workers Screening Check;
  • A current Working With Children's' Check; and
  • A current National Criminal History Record Check.

We are looking for committed people to actively engage with the children/young people and help them build individual capacity and empower them to lead enriched and meaningful lives, and who are experienced in providing residential support to children/young people in out of Home Care, as well as support to access the wider community.

To be successful, you will need well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a Team as well as family members, you will need good communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to follow the routines and protocols in the setting in which you work
