About the Organisation
Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provides a range of services and programs to Aboriginal individuals and families who are experiencing, at risk of experiencing family violence, or use violence. Currently BWAHS is one of 4 Aboriginal specific state funded healing services in Victoria.
BWAHS has skilled qualified staff and comprehensive experience with culturally safe delivery of child, youth and family services for Aboriginal people. They provide family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case co-ordination and support including referrals to the Risk Assessment Management Panel. They have developed an excellent record for providing high quality family violence and trauma informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.
Boorndawan Willam, derives from the Wathaurong and Woiwurrung languages. Boorndawan (Wathaurong) meaning ‘safe’ and Willam (Woiwurrung) meaning ‘house’, combine to create a ‘safe house’. The healing service acknowledges the use of these words in the development of the organisations name.
About the Opportunity
BWAHS has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Consultation and Engagement Officer to join their team in Croydon.
Reporting to the Training and Education Lead, your key responsibility will be to coordinate, administer and implement the training calendar within the project timeframes. You will be liaising with current and prospecting students, maintaining documentation and information, and promote BWAHS as a provider of Aboriginal healing services education.
Your key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Maintaining, administering and coordinating accredited and unaccredited education events conducted both by BWAHS and in collaboration with a TAFE, including provision of an up-to-date calendar, enrolments and participant progress information;
- Liaising and maintaining relationships between BWAHS and Community Controlled organisations to promote and coordinate training programs focused on safety from family violence, healing and recovery;
- Providing support to students with information about administration issues; and
- Supporting other team members in periods of high demand and during periods of absence.

About You
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in supporting and implementing community educational projects or programs in an adult learning environment.
To be successful, you will need to be able to successfully engage with learners, community organisations and education institutions. You will also need to have strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal communities and community controlled organisations.
You will need to have strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. In this role, you will need to have strong time management, organisational and workflow management skills as you will be required to work both autonomously and as part of a team. You are also required to have some level of understanding on how to use Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
Although not a requirement, experience in working in the family violence and/or community services sector, and experience in providing training or other activities with community groups in the Victorian or other Aboriginal communities is highly desirable.
Please Note: You will be required to hold a current Victorian Driver's Licence, hold a satisfactory Police Check and a Working with Children's Check or be willing to obtain one, and hold a current basic first aid qualification or be willing to obtain one.
