About the Organisation

The Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA), which includes the Lutheran Church of New Zealand (LCNZ), is a relatively small Christian denomination, with about 30,000 regular worshippers. By contrast, the worldwide Lutheran Church, with around 80 million adherents, is the second largest non-Catholic church (and the largest Protestant church) in the world. In Australia and New Zealand, there are more than 600 Lutheran congregations, about 520 pastors (including those who have retired) and more than 560 registered lay workers and other employees.

Lutherans have been in Australia and New Zealand for more than 150 years. Australian and New Zealand Lutheranism in the 21st century reflects the multicultural nature of our two nations. We are a culturally rich and colourful church. Congregations of people from Asian and European countries contribute to the cultural diversity of our church, and increasingly we are welcoming African people, primarily Sudanese, into our worshipping communities. The tagline of the Church, "where love comes to life", reflects the heart and soul of the Lutheran Church mission.

About the Opportunity

The Lutheran Church of Australia is looking to welcome an experienced Accounting Services Officer to their team full-time in North Adelaide.

Reporting to the Business Manager, you will assist in implementing the LCA’s accounting processes, providing reliable, timely and accurate financial information to all users of the system.

Core duties:

  • Accurately process all of the LCA’s accounting transactions and entry into the subsidiary ledgers.
  • Process all banking transactions for users of the system
  • Assist all users with their accounting queries and processing requirements.
  • Ensure that the operation of the accounting system complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, as well as the LCA’s accounting policies
  • Undertake any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the position by the Business Manager from time to time
  • Implement the end of month processes, including bank reconciliations, payroll monthly journals, and rollover.
  • Implement the End of Year processes and rollover.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant accounting qualification (minimum Certificate or Diploma), as well as experience in general accounting processes.

A high level of competency in MYOB accounting system will help you thrive in the role. Experience with a reporting program such as Prophix, and/or a business analytics software such as PowerBI will be highly regarded, though not essential as training will be provided.

You do not need to be part of the Lutheran Church to be a great fit for LCA, who are proud to have a diverse workforce from many different cultures and faiths. It is, however, essential that you be comfortable working as part of a religious organisation and able to work within the LCA environment.

You will be confident working with a high degree of accuracy, in addition to the proven ability to work to strict deadlines. You will be able to work autonomously and show initiative where required, whilst having the interpersonal and communication skills required to work as part of a small team.

About the Benefits

The Lutheran Church of Australia values their employees and offers ongoing professional development opportunities and flexible working options, giving you the freedom to work from home at times, and adjust your start and end times to suit your life.

In recognition of your hard work and dedication, the LCA is offering an excellent remuneration circa $60,000 plus super and on site parking.

You will join a dynamic and diverse team, with regular teambuilding and social events.
