About the Opportunity

Yura Yungi Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (YYMS) is currently looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join their Ringers Soak team as a Remote Area Nurse.

Reporting to the Health Operations Manager, your key responsibility is to provide nursing care to the remote Kundat Djaru Community (Ringer Soak) (170km southeast of Halls Creek). The role provides culturally appropriate health promotion/prevention/education sessions about health. This includes finding culturally acceptable and innovative ways to improve access and health outcomes for the population within the Yura Yungi Clinics service areas.

More specifically, you will be:

  • Providing clinical service to clients within generic or specific chronic disease areas, including assessments, screening, interventions, follow up and evaluation;
  • Improving health outcomes through screening (including opportunistic), prevention, assessment, patient self-management education, management, care planning and reviews;
  • Liaising appropriately with clinical staff and other service providers to ensure clients families are supported to engage with relevant services which may include Social-Emotional and Wellbeing services, Mental Health, Department of Child Protection Parent Support services, and Royal Flying Doctor Service;
  • Providing service delivery in a culturally appropriate manner (using resources such as Aboriginal Health Worker and Aboriginal staff feedback); and
  • Assisting with training and clinical mentorship of staff where necessary particularly to increase Aboriginal staff development, employment and facilitate succession planning.

Please note: As part of providing nursing care in the remote Kundat Djaru Community (Ringer Soak Clinic), you will go on a rotating roster of 6 weeks on, and 3 weeks off on isolation leave.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be recognised by AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, with qualifications in Remote Emergency Care (REC), Maternity Emergency Care (MEC), Advised Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS). You will also possess 5 years' post-graduation experience, with 2 of those years in an emergency/critical care department. Knowledge and practical experience in Pharmacotherapeutics, Triage Emergency Care, ALS and BLS is also critical.

Additional accreditation requirements for this role include:

  • Immunisation Certificate;
  • Remote Emergency Care or similar Trauma Management Course; and
  • Maternity Emergency Care Course.

In addition, you will have demonstrated experience in immunisation and care plans, and be registered as a WA Immunisation Provider.

You will have the strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills necessary to promote health literacy and support the self-management of conditions, and be able and willing to effectively explain the purpose of any investigations, tests or treatments to patients, to ensure that they are fully informed, understand their condition and are given a voice.

YYMS is looking for an individual who has experience working in remote communities, with a strong understanding of health issues in these areas, personal strategies for managing stress and the impact they have on health and wellbeing.

It is paramount that you can work both collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team, with the high-level writing skills and computer proficiency required to develop and evaluate detailed care plans and prepare reports for management.

Please note: The successful candidate will require a current 'C' class drivers licence, and either hold or be willing to obtain National Police Clearance and Working with Children clearance before commencement. A Covid-19 Vaccination certificate before commencing is also a requirement.

Your dedication will be rewarded with an attractive salary circa $105,775.28 (commensurate with qualifications and experience) PLUS super and an additional 25% on availability (on-call & call out), which is a payment equivalent to $26,443.82. You will also be entitled to a fantastic range of benefits:

  • $2,000.00 airfare allowance upon completion of 1 year of service;
  • Airfare reimbursement of up to $1,285.00 for each round of Isolation Leave;
  • 5 weeks annual leave;
  • Up to 10 weeks isolation leave (2 weeks every time you complete a 6-week stint);
  • Leave loading of 17.5% payable on four weeks annual leave per year;
  • 10% Superannuation;
  • Rent-free accommodation inclusive of utilities; and
  • Opportunity to participate in the salary sacrifice scheme up to a grossed-up value of $31,177.00 including all other fringe benefits.
