About the Opportunity

ALPA is currently looking for an enthusiastic and adventurous person to join their team as a Travelling Store Manager, working with several communities within Arnhem Land, NT and Far North Queensland. You will fly extensively across a beautiful part of the country that many never get the opportunity to see, rotating around our stores as required to relieve the permanent managers.

Under the direction of the Area Manager, the Traveling Store Manager is responsible for the successful operation of the store through supporting and leading the store team to achieve KPI targets on training, nutrition, safety, sales, budget, and inventory control while on assignment.

Core duties:

  • Undertake the day to day running of the store.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to store staff.
  • Manage the achievement of budget forecasts, focusing on cost control and overall responsibility for the store’s Profit and Loss outcomes.
  • Work with Merchandising, Nutrition and Local Community Stakeholders to meet local community needs for stock levels, store promotions, local employment and nutrition initiatives.
  • Be culturally aware and understand the dynamics of the remote community in which we operate
  • Be a champion of the ALPA values and demonstrate a commitment to work health and safety.

Please note that this role will see you travelling and living for weeks or months at a time in remote Indigenous communities. You will manage each store in a team of two, and shared accommodation will be provided for the management team. This means that you will share accommodation with one colleague for the duration of your stay in each location.

About You 

To be successful, you will have demonstrated experience in the retail or hospitality sector, with strong management skills and the adaptability to manage different teams as you rotate through stores. 

You will be highly organised, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively manage indigenous staff members, where cultural norms and community development priorities may differ from your own.

An understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and contemporary Aboriginal political, social, cultural and economic issues will be essential. You will have a demonstrated ability to work with traditional Aboriginal people, as well as a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal self-determination at a community level.

It will be important to have the confidence and resilience to work in what can often be an undeniably challenging environment. 

Please note: You will need a current, unrestricted Manual Driver's Licence. You will also need a National Police Check and pre-employment medical. You will also need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before commencing.
