Located in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, Puffing Billy Railway is Australia's premier preserved steam railway. Operating on the original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, this century-old train offers a range of fun-filled experiences for visitors young and old. 

Established in 1900, the railway served the local communities that lived in the hills and carried anything from passengers to timber, livestock, potatoes and plants. Today, the railway has become a tourism icon thanks to the tireless efforts of a small paid team and 300 volunteers.

Our New Human Resources/Training Coordinator position

Puffing Billy Railway now has a unique and newly-created opportunity for a Human Resources/Training Coordinator to join their passionate and joyful team in Belgrave, VIC. In this role, your key responsibility will be to push and embed the learning and development opportunities in the organisation. You will achieve this by analysing effective and responsive training strategies, systems and programs while also identifying learning and development opportunities to meet the organisation's objectives. You will also take the lead in identifying risks and developing strategies that address shortfalls in the learning and development space.

Your core duties include:

  • Working with department leaders to ensure training programs are of a high level and fit for purpose, compliant and delivered by appropriately skilled personnel;
  • Developing and implementing learning skills projects and training calendars while also maximising established training channels and programs;
  • Exploring and providing advice on the application of various training methods that include coaching, mentorships, apprenticeships and secondments; and
  • Communicating and marketing training initiatives through existing and new promotional methods.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, you will provide support in all human resources functions such as recruitment and selection, policy development, workforce training, employee relations and learning and development. 

This role will require you to monitor and evaluate identified training requirements in employees' Performance Development Plans to enhance performance while ensuring that all training aligns with the organisation's culture and values of Safety, Respect, One Team, Excellence, Integrity, Legacy and Fun.

What you will bring to the team

We are looking for a proactive and motivating individual who has the enthusiasm and the drive to do terrific things in the learning and development space and contribute to Puffing Billy's legacy for years to come.

The ideal candidate will possess or be working to complete a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and have demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, delivering and evaluating learning and development programs. Proven understanding of the AQF Framework and its application in creating training programs is paramount. Although not essential, a tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Learning and Development or a related field is highly desirable.

This role is all about relationship building, working with others and adding value to the organisation. As such, you will be a strong communicator with strong interpersonal skills which you will use to effectively develop and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will also engage various departmental leaders to identify learning and development, training and professional development opportunities.
