What does a Financial Counsellor do?

As a Financial Counsellor with Jungarni-Jutiya Indigenous Corporation, you will provide financial counselling and support to people living in Halls Creek, WA, and surrounding communities. You will become part of these communities, as you live and work every day with our First Nations Peoples.

Each day will bring rewarding  new challenges as you work with community members and provide financial, debt recovery, and court system education, giving your clients all the tools they need to make informed financial choices. You will also work with people to establish manageable budgets, debt recovery plans, and referrals to other relevant services when needed.

You will be well-supported thanks to partnerships with other service providers in the Kimberley who are able to share resources. This gives clients access to legal help, as well as ensuring that you aren't an isolated source of support or advice, backed by an experienced team.

You will get to experience breathtaking parts of Australia that many people never get the opportunity to see, with adventure and travel baked into your role as a Financial Counsellor. You will travel to communities surrounding Halls Creek each month to work with the members of those communities.

Role Specifics:

  • Based out of Halls Creek, WA
  • Travel to surrounding communities
  • Reporting to the service coordinator
  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Roles available:

6-month contract role till 30/06/2022

  • Likelihood of extension based on funding
  • Flexibility to work from home with periodic trips to Halls Creek, or relocate

18-month contract role till 30/06/2023

  • Likelihood of extension based on funding
  • Must be based in Halls Creek

About You

To thrive in this role you will be resilient and empathetic, committed to supporting people in these communities, and being proactive in offering support and following up with your clients.

A confident communicator, you will be able to adapt your approach to each person and be comfortable giving talks, running workshops or delivering radio presentations as required. Importantly, you will also be highly empathetic, capable of listening to your clients and understanding their situation and needs.

Highly flexible, you will be able to think on your feet and successfully manage a highly varied workload, where no two days are the same. You'll be able to work autonomously and as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

The qualification relevant to this role is a diploma in Financial Counselling. You may have already completed this, be in the process of completing this or have a strong desire to learn about this field in which case, we will support you to complete the course while you gain valuable working experience.

You will be working with remote Indigenous communities, and you will need to show a high degree of respect for Indigenous culture. You will be supported in your role to learn and grow in this area, so you don't need to come to us as an expert.

Please note: You will need a current 'C' class driver's license, and be willing to obtain national police clearance and a working with children check. You will also need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
