Your new company
Urapuntja Health Service provides services to a population of about 1000 permanent residents who live in 16 homeland communities. A unique health service, Urapuntja delivers outreach to all 16 communities every week and has been delivering core primary health care services to those communities for more than 30 years. The authority of the health board and community members determine how the service works, and to this day, the health status of our people in Utopia is some of the best in the Northern Territory.

Your new career
These are not clinic-based roles! You will have the exciting experience of travelling by 4WD vehicle to provide clinical services to remote communities on a daily basis! Stand out applicants may be offered a role as a Clinic Manager!
As a Registered Nurse, you will be primarily responsible for providing general health care through the assessment and management of a broad range of clinical problems in consultation with Aboriginal Health Workers, Registered Nurses and General Practitioners as required.
More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Clinical Care: Manage clinical problems, provide general first aid and administer pharmaceutical therapies including vaccines;
- Coordination: Evacuate patients transferring to Alice Springs Hospital & assist other staff requiring community, cultural and/or linguistic assistance; and
- Team Work: Work closely with GP's, communicate with other staff in regard to patient care & provide on-the-job training for less experienced RN's/AHW's (Aboriginal Health Workers)

What we need from you
Highly resourceful and adaptable candidates will thrive in this position, as no two days are the same when working in remote communities. You'll be a patient, collaborative individual able to fit within any group dynamic and handle any unexpected challenges that may come your way.
Importantly, your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will provide you with the means to effectively liaise with Aboriginal clients in a culturally appropriate manner. A prior understanding of Aboriginal primary health care and the health issues that impact Aboriginal communities would be beneficial, however it is not essential, providing you are open to taking cultural advice from Aboriginal staff with the desire to build upon your understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture.
To be considered, you will:
- Be a Registered Nurse and be registered (or eligible for registration) with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
- Have demonstrated clinical and health promotion skills and knowledge in the areas of STIs & Chronic Disease Management;
- Currently hold, or be eligible to obtain an OCHRE card (Working with Children Clearance) and NT Vaccines Certification prior to commencing employment.
This role is 9am – 5pm, giving you back your weekends to rest, relax or explore! There will be some requirement to participate in after-hours on-call and the emergency care roster.
Please note: Covid-19 vaccination is mandatory to be successful in this role. A current manual driver’s licence with the ability to travel on unsealed roads via 4WD is also a requirement of this role, and you must be comfortable with this.
