New Horizons is a progressive not-for-profit community based organisation, which has been operating since 1981.

The organisation provides services in supported accommodation, supported employment and aged care for over 1200 people. New Horizons' non-profit commercial packaging service specialises in providing solutions for commercial clients while providing employment for people with a disability.

The organisation's head office is in North Ryde, however services are provided in the Sydney, Central Coast, Hunter, Mid North Coast, Blue Mountains and Northern Rivers regions. New Horizons is growing rapidly, with approximately 520 employees in NSW.

About the Opportunities

New Horizons has exciting opportunities for several Support Workers to join their teams in Kempsey and Taree.

The aim of  the Taree role will be to provide support in the Disability Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (DHASI), an innovative program designed to support people with disabilities to live independently. The aim of the Kempsey role will be to provide support in the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI), an innovative program designed to support people with mental illness to live independently.  The primary purpose of both roles is to provide care to adults living with a disability and/or mental illness in the community.

About You

To be successful in the Residential Support Worker roles, you will have sound knowledge and experience supporting people in the community. The roles available for this program are full time and shifts fall between 6:00am and 8:00pm over a seven day roster, to provide effective and adequate support to the people who are part of the program.

New Horizons is seeking empathetic individuals, with experience in disabilities and/or mental health industry and complimentary skills in personal support, social and community welfare or similar. These are pivotal 'hands on' roles and accordingly your ability to communicate effectively with vulnerable people, to solve problems, to manage and organise your time efficiently and to build and maintain collaborative relationships. You will need both the ability to work effectively in a small team, and the ability to work unsupervised.

To succeed you will have completed qualifications in either Disability, Mental Health, Social Work or Community Development. You will need general administration abilities and able to demonstrate a basic level of computer literacy, complimented by an understanding of the Disability Service Standards and/or Mental Health Standards will be vital. An enthusiasm for working with people with disability and a genuine desire to help others and improve the quality of life is essential!

Employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record check.
