About Papua New Guinea

The Independent State of Papua New Guinea lies just south of the equator, in the western Pacific to the east of Indonesia, and 160 kilometres north of the north-eastern tip of Queensland, Australia.

Papua New Guinea has magnificent natural scenery, and diverse cultural heritage. For those who decide to relocate to Papua New Guinea, this is your opportunity to trek along remote jungle tracks, cruise along the mighty Sepik river, surf the waves of New Ireland, fish around the fiords of Tufi or dive amongst the coral reef coastline! Also of note is a large expatriate community of professionals in similar circumstances.

You'll also have the opportunity to take advantage of :

  • Full Relocation Assistance
  • 5 weeks annual leave (negotiable dependent on the nature of your contract);
  • Return flights home each year;
  • Fully-Furnished Accommodation;
  • Vehicle for personal and work use; and
  • Medical Coverage.

Your Chance to Drive Papua New Guinea's Growth

These roles will see you play a pivotal role in managing a wide range of construction projects on time and on budget. You will work with teams ranging from 5-150 while reporting through to the Construction Manager.

Some of your day to day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Planning - Driving the scoping of labour, plant, equipment, procurement and design coordination throughout the project planning phase.
  • Management - Coordinating the clients, contractors and the team on site to ensure that project expectations and deadlines are met to standard.
  • People - Acting as a key point of contact for the team on site and training and mentoring them throughout the project.
  • Reporting - Assuring all project reporting and documentation is accurate, timely and compliant.
  • Collaborate - Work closely with the estimating team and Division Manager to ensure projects are effectively budgeted and specified.

Please note: You will be based on site according to the location of the projects that are being undertaken.

Your Expertise

To be successful in this role you will need relevant qualifications and extensive experience in project management on medium to large builds in the industrial/commercial construction space.

Experience working internationally will be held in high regard as the ability to adapt to a different cultural environment will be key for individuals relocating. We are looking for someone who has the ability to work with people from a range of nationalities and enjoys the challenges of working in a developing country. You need to be resilient - not just on a personal level but also in your approach to working in an operating environment that is very different from those in a first world country. You are excited about the idea of working on meaningful projects that are making real positive changes to the lives of the people in PNG!

Also key will be:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.
  • Excellent relationship building skills to effectively engage our clients.
  • The ability to lead by example and show that you are willing to roll up your sleeves when required.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Due to the complex nature of managing and training a workforce in which the vast majority are PNG Nationals, you will be required to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate excellent communication and mentoring skills. You will understand how to facilitate good cross-cultural communications and recognise the value of using check-in methodologies to ensure that everyone understands what is required.

The Rewards

In return for your hard work, you’ll receive an attractive remuneration package circa $150,000 - $180,000 AUD commensurate with skills and experience.

We have a deep commitment to taking care of our people and offer daily meals for all our people, free on-site medical services to maintain tradesperson's health and wellbeing, and a culture of continuous improvement to ensure we keep them safe, productive and happy. On top of that, you will be engaged in a formal learning & development program to structure and guide your growth.
