St John of God Pathology has 24 laboratories and 94 collection centres throughout Western Australia and Victoria, providing services to more than one and a half million patients a year. The practice employs more than 1,000 staff including 30 Pathologists.
St John of God Pathology, Victoria was established in 1968 and is a NATA accredited laboratory service that strives to deliver high quality diagnostic pathology services to medical practitioners, hospitals and industry throughout Victoria.
The practice comprises of seventeen laboratories located in Ararat, Ballarat, Bendigo, Berwick, Castlemaine, Colac, Geelong, Horsham, Kerang, Kyabram, Mildura, Moonee Ponds, Portland, St Arnaud, Stawell, and Warrnambool, supported by 50 collection centres with extensive courier and domiciliary services.
About the Opportunity
St John of God Pathology has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager - Victoria to join its team in Geelong.
Reporting to the National Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient, cost effective and safe operation of the core and regional laboratories. The role coordinates the allocation of resources including managing the operations of the core laboratories in liaison with the departmental seniors. You will also be a member of the state management committee.
More specifically, some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Liaising with other departments and medical staff or external organisations as required to process enquiries and arranging interviews and meetings;
- Participating and contributing to continuous quality improvement and having a thorough knowledge of legislation, standards and acts relating to patholgy services;
- Managing and providing administrative support to the senior staff of the core scientific disciplines and regional laboratories;
- Coordinating the allocation of resources throughout the laboratories;
- Managing the operations of the core laboratories in liaison with the departmental seniors; and
- Attending Pathology Management Committee meetings and reporting ongoing laboratory operations.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Applied Science (or equivalent) as well as tertiary qualifications in Business Management/Administration (or be progressing towards completion of these qualifications). Along with these qualifications you have extensive relevant pathology laboratory experience.
Importantly, these qualifications and experience will be supported by change management skills, the ability to utilise and organise resources, highly developed negotiating and interpersonal abilities, as well as leadership, problem solving and effective verbal and written skills.
You will have demonstrated experience of managing budgets and experience in the application of Quality Management principles in a clinical laboratory.
A drivers licence is essential, as are intermediate computer skills.

The successful candidate will not only enjoy an attractive remuneration which is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications, but also salary sacrificing of up to $26,050 comprising $16,050 for general expenses and $10,000 specifically for meals and entertainment.
A vehicle will be available for work related travel.
