Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW

Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW – Northern Region is a not-for-profit organisation that hosts government-funded programs to foster regional economic development in the north-eastern region of New South Wales.

We have experienced Rural Financial Counsellors based in 15 locations across Northern NSW, with a team of specialists servicing the region. Our counsellors provide a confidential, free and impartial rural financial counselling service to primary producers, fishers and small rural and regional businesses experiencing financial difficulties.

These roles will allow you to support and provide strategies to owners ensuring they can rebuild their businesses while also planning for the future. You will make a real contribution to the growth and sustainability of Rural Australia.

Help rebuild the community

In March 2022, we have experienced a once in a century catastrophe that has severely impacted our region and community. The floods saw people completely lose their livelihoods but not their spirit. As we begin to rebuild our community, we are looking for three experienced and passionate Small Business Counsellors to join our team and help us support the region as it begins to rebuild in Lismore/Northern Rivers.

Please note: These positions will start as soon as possible and continue through to 31 December 2022 with a potential extension (dependent on funding).

Core duties:

  • Conduct financial Counselling and financial analysis
  • Engage with financial institutions on behalf of businesses 
  • Network with professional services 
  • Provide Progress Reports
  • Mentor businesses improvement and resilience opportunities

What you will bring

You will hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling or a Diploma of Financial Counselling (rural). If you are a new counsellor, you may commence employment without the minimum qualification, provided you have been assessed by the service provider as having a base-level of skills and experience and begin the diploma within six months.

Preference will be given to applicants with proven qualifications and/or skills and experience in finance, business and/or law. Knowledge of rural and remote communities will also be highly desirable.

Importantly, you will have an understanding of the small business sector and small business management issues.

In this role, you will have effective interpersonal skills and communicate with business owners and the wider community effectively. Moreover, you will be an empathetic individual and be respectful and compassionate to people’s circumstances and the recent events that have shaken and severely impacted the community.

Please note: Due to the broad regions these roles service, you are expected to have a current, unrestricted driver's license and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

You will receive a competitive salary package circa $83,000 – $91,000 PLUS super and loadings, depending on experience and qualifications. You will also be provided with a vehicle allowance, a company computer and mobile phone.
