Providing holistic healthcare to the Pintupi people

We are Pintupi Homelands Health Service, an expanding and well equipped Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) primary healthcare facility located in Kintore, NT. Servicing a close knit community of 450, the health service provides clinical services with dedicated staff consisting of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers, a doctor and support staff.

What you'll do

The opportunity exists for an AHPRA registered Remote Area Nurse to join us on a 12-month contract with extension likely!

Working one month on, one month off, you will work as part of our clinical team delivering a comprehensive approach to primary health and integrated emergency care.

Working primarily out of the community clinic with at-home visits as required, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Utilisation of patient electronic information and management system;
  • Treatment of acute illness;
  • 24/7 Emergency care (on an alternating 3-day roster);
  • Antenatal and post-natal care;
  • Child health care;
  • Child and adult immunisations;
  • Well person screening;
  • Management of chronic disease; and
  • Sexual health.

What we need from you

To be successful, you will be currently registered with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and have demonstrated experience in the delivery of comprehensive primary health care. Experience in a health sector such as pediatric, cardiac, or emergency nursing, though not essential, will help you succeed in this role. 

You'll have a solid understanding of cultural safety and a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services. Any experience working in remote areas or with Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded, as will experience in paediatric care.

Importantly, you'll be a collaborative team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. You must also have the ability to cope under stress.

Please Note: A current Manual Driver's Licence, OCHRE Card, criminal history check and full vaccination against COVID-19 including a booster will be required.

About Kintore

Kintore is located in the Northern Territory, some 530 kilometres west of Alice Springs. This remote part of Outback Australia is truly beautiful and is a popular tourist destination for 4WD and trekking enthusiasts. Kintore has a school (Walungurru School), college (high school and adult), child care centre, church, store, airstrip, health clinic, police station and a swimming pool.

Kintore is also a major centre for the Western Desert art movement which began at the community of Papunya. The Pintupi people traditionally pass on significant Dreamtime stories by way of art using sand, rock and local plants and today, canvas paintings from the Kintore region have gained international acclaim.
