St John Ambulance Australia NT Inc (St John NT)'s mission is to be the leading provider of first aid and ambulance services in the Northern Territory by saving lives and improving all Territorians' safety and health care. We do this by providing a range of services, such as ambulance services, coordination of emergency medical responses, first aid assistance at community and major events, through to nationally accredited training first aid training and community education.

Due to increased demand, we are seeking dedicated and compassionate Qualified Paramedics to provide emergency medical care to various locations throughout the Northern Territory.

Opportunities currently exist in Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Alice Springs and Darwin.

A day in the life

You will work closely with your team to provide high-quality urgent and life-saving medical care to those who need it most, along with some complex cases and often in remote locations requiring 4WD, boat or plane access. Your core duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Responding to a significant number of medical and trauma cases, requiring full application of clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrating adaptive and creative thinking skills.
  • Delivering care with a broad scope of practice, supported by the new St John NT Clinical Practice Manual.
  • Making appropriate referrals to other health care professions/service providers when necessary; and
  • Building sustainable, collaborative and professional relationships as a member of the team.

Your instruments for success

In this quality care-focused role, you will need to be someone who thrives under pressure and has solid problem-solving abilities.

It is essential you have:

  • 1+ years’ experience as a Qualified Paramedic.
  • A degree in Paramedical Science (or equivalent) from an approved University.
  • A current (unconditional) registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or able to obtain one prior to employment. 
  • A working with children clearance (OCHRE Card) or able to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Compliance with the St John NT Immunisation Policy (Including Influenza and Covid-19).
  • Satisfactory National Police Check or able to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Current unrestricted driver’s license (ability to drive a manual vehicle).
