Your next opportunity

In this role, you will be responsible for the successful operation of the store by supporting and leading the store team to achieve KPI targets on training, nutrition, safety, sales, budget, and inventory control while on assignment.

Core duties:

  • Undertake the day-to-day running of the store;
  • Provide leadership and coaching to store staff;
  • Manage the achievement of budget forecasts, focusing on cost control and overall responsibility for the store’s Profit and Loss outcomes;
  • Work with Merchandising, Nutrition and Local Community Stakeholders to meet local community needs for stock levels, store promotions, local employment and nutrition initiatives;
  • Be culturally aware and understand the dynamics of the remote community in which we operate; and
  • Be a champion of the ALPA values and demonstrate a commitment to work health and safety.

Please note that this role will see you travelling and living for weeks or months at a time in remote Indigenous communities. You will manage each store in a team of two, and shared accommodation will be provided for the management team. This means you will share accommodation with one colleague for your stay in each location.

What you will bring to the team

You will ideally have demonstrated experience in the retail sector to thrive in this role. You will also possess strong management skills and the adaptability to manage different teams as you rotate through stores.

You will be highly organised, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively manage indigenous staff members, where cultural norms and community development priorities may differ from your own.

Understanding Aboriginal history, culture and contemporary Aboriginal political, social, cultural and economic issues will be essential. You will have a demonstrated ability to work with traditional Aboriginal people and a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal self-determination at a community level.
