About the role

BWAHS delivers a range of program and services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, men and their families who have been impacted by family violence. These services include, the provision of case management, intensive family support, counselling for women, men and youth and children, and programs for men, women and children. The Women’s group worker will work with the Women’s programs Co-ordinator to design and deliver culturally centred therapeutic groups for women. Currently groups such as possum skin cloaks, parenting groups, Tiddas and other creativity-based programs are being delivered.

BWAHS provides a range of services and programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families who are experiencing, at risk of experiencing, or using family violence.

About you

  • It would be great if you had experience in family violence but any transferable experience in community services is welcomed. An understanding of the impacts of colonisation and ongoing generational trauma is important. The ability to communicate with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to create a safe and supportive space for people impacted by family violence.
  • You need to have a driver’s license, vaccination certificate, working with children’s check and undertake a national police check.
