Pintupi Homelands Health Service is an expanding and well-equipped AGPAL-accredited primary healthcare facility in Kintore. with a dedicated staff of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers, a doctor and support staff.

Our dedicated team of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers and doctors help us provide clinical services and have a real impact on our close-knit community of 450 people.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Officer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 July 2023 with the opportunity for an extension.

Please note that we are located in remote Australia and as such, previous experience working in a remote location is crucial to your success.

This role comes with a salary circa $110,000 + super and salary sacrificing options up to $15,900. You will be working 10-week stints, and halfway through it, we’ll give you a long weekend in Alice Springs.

Make a real difference in the lives of members of the community

In this role, you will support individuals and groups to achieve change that keeps every member of the community safe.

Core duties:

  • Develop and maintain networks and relationships to deliver culturally safe and appropriate mental health and drug and alcohol services;
  • Support the health promotion and sexual health programs in collaboration with the Health Promotion Coordinator;
  • Conduct community needs assessments with relevant groups;
  • Develop responsive and accessible services and continuity of care;
  • Actively participate and contribute to the quality initiatives and programs; and
  • Liaise with other programs and allied health and community agencies to ensure a holistic approach to health and wellness.

You will deliver a client-focused, accountable and collaborative casework that respects indigenous culture and context of each client, family and community and is based on the timely sharing of accurate information to ensure that the support meets the identified needs of the client.

What you will bring to the team

To thrive in this role, you will possess a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Welfare, or a related discipline. Experience in social work, child development, and/or child protection matters within family and community environments and an understanding of disadvantaged groups will also help you succeed in this role.

It is crucial that you have previous experience working in a remote location.

 

Moreover, you will be a go-getter with a hands-on and flexible approach and have a solid understanding of cultural safety and a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services.

Respect for diverse indigenous cultures and a willingness to learn and adapt will also be essential in this role. You will engage actively as part of the community, building genuine relationships and fostering trust. As such, an outgoing and personable disposition will also be essential.

Importantly, you'll be a collaborative team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.

Please Note: A current Manual Driver's Licence, OCHRE Card, and a criminal history check will be required prior to commencing in this role.

About Kintore

Kintore is located in the Northern Territory, 530 kilometres west of Alice Springs. This remote part of Outback Australia is truly beautiful and is a popular tourist destination for 4WD and trekking enthusiasts. Kintore has a school (Walungurru School), college (high school and adult), childcare centre, church, store, airstrip, health clinic, police station and a swimming pool.

Kintore is also a major centre for the Western Desert art movement which began at the community of Papunya. The Pintupi people traditionally pass on significant Dreamtime stories by way of art using sand, rock and local plants and today, canvas paintings from the Kintore region have gained international acclaim.
