BWAHS delivers a range of program and services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, men and their families who have been impacted by family violence. These services include, the provision of case management, intensive family support, counselling for women, men and youth and children, and programs for men, women and children. The Women’s group worker will work with the Women’s programs Co-ordinator to design and deliver culturally centred therapeutic groups for women. Currently groups such as possum skin cloaks, parenting groups, Tiddas and other creativity-based programs are being delivered.

What’s Behind This Door?

As the Orange Door Aboriginal Team Leader, your primary responsibility will be to support and develop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners to deliver quality service responses to community members who have been impacted by family violence.

Your day-to-day will include (but not be limited to):

  • Coordinating casework, intake, assessment, planning, education and healing programs with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Practitioners
  • Maintaining team performance, ensuring all cases are managed with the utmost confidentiality, and upholding our ethical standards
  • Providing specialist advice to Practitioners and secondary consultation to a broader team of practitioners who are not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander but may be working with community members in their role. 
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective processing of records via the Client Record Management (CRM) system

Our Next Gem

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Certificate IV in community service, family violence, or similar, and a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma and its ongoing impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

You will have experience working successfully with Aboriginal people to address a range of complex and diverse needs.

A knack for leadership is essential for this role. You'll be equipping your team with support resources, promoting resilience for crisis responses, and ensuring all policies and operational guidelines are efficiently and effectively met.

Required: you have or are willing to obtain a current National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and basic First Aid qualification. You will also need a current Driver's Licence and proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
