At Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS), we are the leading specialist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family violence service provider in the Eastern Metropolitan region of Melbourne.

We are currently looking for a full-time, permanent Team Leader to direct the Orange Door Practitioner team in Croydon, Victoria.

Due to the nature of the role, you need to identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

What’s Behind This Door?


As the Orange Door Aboriginal Team Leader, your primary responsibility will be to direct and monitor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander outreach services.

Your day-to-day will include (but not be limited to):

  • Coordinating casework, intake, assessment, planning, education and healing programs with Practitioners and the Senior Team Leader
  • Maintaining team performance ensuring all cases are managed with utmost confidentiality and upholding our ethical standards
  • Providing specialist advice to Practitioners and attending periodic consults where required
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective processing of records via the Client Record Management (CRM) system
  • Liaising with Victoria Police, Child Protection, other community organisations and stakeholders
  • Identifying and organising professional learning and development opportunities such as forums for Practitioners
  • Passionately leading Practitioners Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families lead safer, healthier lives

Our Next Gem

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Certificate IV in community service, family violence, or similar, and a strong understanding of intergenerational Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family violence.

You will have experience working successfully with Aboriginal people to address a range of complex and diverse needs.

A knack for leadership is essential for this role. You'll be equipping your team with support resources, promoting resilience for crisis responses, and ensuring all policies and operational guidelines are efficiently and effectively met.

We value passionate individuals with resilience and a commitment to providing healthier, safer environments for families in need. You will be liaising with families of all walks of life and our networks - as such, strong interpersonal skills are a must.

Required: you have or are willing to obtain a current National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and basic First Aid qualification. You will also need a current Driver's Licence and proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
