How You’ll Make a Difference
The Cardiac Educator provides a visiting service to all Sunrise Health Service and Wurli Wurlinjang clinics and communities, providing individual and group services to cardiac patients and their families.
Based in Sunrise’s wider Community Health team which includes a Health Promotion team and a range of other programs, the Cardiac Nurse Educator will regularly travel to nine remote clinic sites in Sunrise’s service delivery area and will also visit Wurli Wurlinjang clinics throughout Katherine.
The successful candidate will split their time about 50/50 across both Sunrise and Wurli Wurlinjang, alternating one working week at a time between the organisations.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing high quality to patients living with cardiac conditions and their families
- Providing group education and other health promotion sessions
- Providing clinical leadership to other health professionals
- Coordinating quality improvement activities as needed
- Contributing to reports required to funding bodies, including the online Medical Outreach Indigenous Chronic Diseases Program portal
- Travelling to sites either via company vehicle or flights (provided by the organisations)

What You’ll Bring to the Team
To be considered for this position, you must hold relevant tertiary Nursing qualifications and have valid AHPRA registration. You will draw on your experience in cardiac care (minimum 3 years of experience) to provide high-quality care to our patients in the region.
Other requirements include:
- Unrestricted driver’s license with (ideally) the ability to operate a manual vehicle
- First aid certification
- Current OCHRE clearance or willingness to obtain
- Acceptable vaccination status to work with vulnerable people in the NT
- Experience working in an Aboriginal health context
Critical to your success in this role will be a respect and understanding of Aboriginal cultural imperatives and how they interact with the medical system more broadly. Candidates who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
About the Area
The Big Rivers region (a 3 hour drive from Darwin) begins south of Kakadu National Park encompassing Pine Creek, then extends over 500km south to Kalkaringi and stretches across the width of the Territory between the Western Australia and Queensland borders. The region is significant in scale, covering over 360,000 square kilometres and accounting for an area greater than that covered by Germany. The region consists of a number of varied natural environments including vast rivers, tropical forests, rocky escarpments and savannah plains.
While the region is highly valued for its natural, cultural, and history and heritage attractions, there are opportunities to strengthen the tourism industry and further develop the quantity and quality of tourism products in the region.
