Your Next Opportunity

As our next Building Control Officer or Senior Building Control Officer, your primary responsibility will be ensuring buildings in Tauranga City are safe and built according to Council compliance obligations under the Building Act 2004.  

As part of our Building Services division, you will work towards the overarching goal of delivering outcomes that better the community by: 

  • Supervising building inspections across both our residential and commercial portfolios
  • Assisting customers on matters related to building consent
  • Supporting the maintenance and development of the team’s competency
  • Maintaining accurate records on decisions related to building matters

What You’ll Bring to the Team

To be considered for this role, will hold tertiary qualifications in a building-related discipline as listed in Regulation 3 of the Building Control Authority Regulations and, if you’re applying for the Senior position, have a minimum of 5 years of experience in working with the NZ Building Consent Authority. 

 Other requirements include:

  • An understanding of either Residential 1, 2 and/or 3 or Commercial 1 and 2 building projects as outlined in Regulation 18
  • Demonstrated experience in the building industry, including involvement in a range of building projects
  • Prior experience in a leadership or management capacity (Senior position only)
  • Experience working in a government environment
  • Highly developed communication skills
