About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it. 

CRDVS's vision is "Making a difference – bringing domestic and family violence to an end". We seek to do this by providing a comprehensive and client-centred quality service to all vulnerable clients. The organisation provides a confidential and free service for family members who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, domestic and family violence. Due to internal growth and promotions, we are looking for three Domestic Violence Practitioners to join our Cairns and Mossman offices.

Our successful applicant will be rewarded with an attractive salary in-line with SCHADS level 4 salary circa $77,584 pro-rata plus super, annual leave loading, and the opportunity to increase your take-home pay with salary sacrifice options.

How You’ll Make a Difference

We currently have rewarding opportunities for three experienced Level Four Domestic Violence Practitioners to join our team in Cairns and Mossman, QLD. 

We are looking for:

  • One full-time Domestic Violence Practitioner (level four) based in Mossman
  • One full-time Domestic Violence Practitioner (level four) based in Cairns
  • One full-time Domestic Violence Practitioner (level four) based in Cairns on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract

Reporting directly to the Senior Practitioner, you will provide effective crisis intervention, including intake and risk assessment, information and referral, crisis counselling and case management of clients. 

Core duties:

  • Work flexibly with a variety of modalities appropriate to counselling people as their individual needs and learning styles dictate;
  • Provide community education to assist with enhancing community awareness of domestic and family violence and its effects;
  • Assisting with Domestic Violence Protection Order applications and providing information and support at Domestic Violence Court;
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate, accurate and confidential records of client work, including case management plans and court data; and
  • Participate actively in regular case management meetings and supervision of internal and external professional development

What You’ll Bring to the Team

As our Domestic Violence Practitioners, it’s essential that you have demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and of high-risk indicators, protective factors and contra-indicators of possible interventions relating to domestic and family violence.

Your interpersonal and team-building skills will be outstanding, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, families, government and non-government agencies and the general public. 

You will have:

  • A Bachelor’s of Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or similar
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with people of varying backgrounds
  • A caring attitude and ability to instil comfort in others
  • Confident understanding of gendered analysis of Domestic Violence
