About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it. 

CRDVS's vision is "Making a difference – bringing domestic and family violence to an end". We seek to do this by providing a comprehensive and client-centred quality service to all vulnerable clients. The organisation provides a confidential and free service for family members who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, domestic and family violence. CRDVS will at all times strive to uphold high levels of professionalism and accountability.

You will be joining a close-knit team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support, and training, and staff the service. Due to internal growth and promotions, we are looking for a Receptionist to join our main Cairns office on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

How You’ll Make a Difference

CRDVS has a rewarding opportunity for a receptionist to join our team in Cairns on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will be the first point of contact for clients in our business and will provide a warm welcome and initial response over the phone and in person.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Welcoming clients over the phone and in person, and being the initial face of CRDVS
  • Providing basic risk assessment, emotional regulation, referrals, and basic protection order information to clients in person or over the phone
  • Being a key member of the team to provide a smooth and calming experience for all clients
  • Administration, including filing data and client records confidentially and providing reports to the CEO when necessary
  • Participating in professional development and training
  • Assisting with the achievement of organisational goals
  • Ad hoc reception and administration duties

What You’ll Bring to the Team

As our Receptionist, you will have an understanding of domestic and family violence and experience working as a receptionist. This role will suit someone with a Certificate or Diploma in Community Services or studying a degree in social or behavioural sciences.

You will be warm and welcoming, with the ability to do an emotional temperature check and assess what assistance clients may need. 

You will have:

  • A Certificate III or IV in Community Services, a relevant Diploma, or studying towards a relevant Degree
  • The ability to be warm and welcoming and remain calm when faced with people in crisis
  • Experience in a reception role, greeting clients, answering phones, and basic administration tasks
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills 
  • The ability to quickly learn information on relevant domestic violence legislation
  • Some knowledge of domestic and family violence and gendered analysis
