Who We Are

Oscar Romero Flexi Schools are part of Edmund Rice Education Australia Flexible Schools Ltd. Our Flexible Schools offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. The young people enrolled in our programs typically express a broad range of complex education and social needs and the Flexi Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching, learning and wellbeing programs, including, wellbeing support, educational and vocational pathways and the development of social capabilities and connections with the local community.

Our Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre provides an educational and wellbeing program for young people aged 12 – 21 years of age. Our purpose is to re-engage young people who are looking to access a different way of learning. Fundamental to our operation is creating a “Common Ground” based on our principles of Respect, Participation, Honesty and Safe & Legal. Staff and young people come together on this "common ground’ where everyone has a voice in making decisions and establishing working agreements to foster a welcoming environment where young people can achieve positive educational and wellbeing outcomes.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will receive an attractive remuneration package circa $77,000 - $107,000 (commensurate on experience and qualifications) + super per annum, based on your experience level (in line with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth Teachers Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2015; Salary Schedules June 2022) as well as genuine opportunities for ongoing professional development.

How You’ll Make a Difference

Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre has exciting opportunities for two experienced middle and upper-secondary teachers who are looking to advance their careers and make a difference in the lives of young people who have disengaged from the mainstream education system. 

Our educators often go above and beyond in delivering engaging educational programs and experiences for the young people on campus. On any given day, this can include coordinating outdoor adventure-based learning activities, transporting students and of course, supporting young people to achieve learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Other day-to-day duties may include:

  • Developing and implementing individualised learning activities

  • Assisting and supporting other staff members as needed 

  • Participating in the daily routines and activities of the FLC, including morning meetings, lunch, bus pick-up and drop-offs, electives, outings and camps

What You’ll Bring to the Team

We’re looking for tertiary qualified teachers, our middle and upper secondary learning groups, who have experience working with disenfranchised young people OR are interested in putting their skills and passion to work in a unique learning environment. 

You’ll be a passionate and empathetic individual who is able to turn curriculum objectives into creative and engaging learning activities that empower young people to learn and expand their horizons. 

Other requirements include:

  • Teacher’s registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Australia
  • A positive West Australian Working with Children’s check
  • Primary/secondary school experience
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence

The following are not essential requirements but will be viewed favourably:

  • An understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural imperatives 
  • Experience in outdoor adventure-based learning to assist in engaging young people on campus
  • TAE qualification, to assist young people on campus in receiving further training during their time with us (this qualification will be highly regarded when combined with another skillset or creative talent that can allow the young people to engage in different education pathways)
  • Experience and/or qualifications in Inclusive Education/Learning Support
  • Experience working with regional disenfranchised communities
