Our Story:

North Queensland Women’s Legal Service is a community-based legal service developed and operated by women, for women. Since our inception in 1996, we have sought to enhance women’s access to justice and promote change within the justice system informed by women’s experiences.

Our clients are women. They are usually mums (and primary carers) and have limited access to financial resources. All too often, they are victims of domestic violence. We see an increased demand for our help each year, especially from women in rural and regional areas.

As the demand for our help increases, so does our team of dedicated professionals wanting to use their expertise to make a real difference in the lives of women and their children. In recognition of this, the NQWLS has also recently received increased funding to meet this demand in new and innovative ways.

As such, we now have a rewarding opportunity available for an Intake and Administration Officer to join our team in Townsville and begin assisting clients as they begin their journey navigating through the legal system.

How You’ll Make a Difference:

As our next Intake and Administration Officer, you will often be the first point of contact for women who are accessing our services for the first time. Many of our clients will contact us during times of significant distress, e.g. after experiencing domestic violence. As such, a critical component of this role will be the effective and sensitive delivery of intake services - either for the purpose of receiving legal assistance from our team, or for referrals to external agencies and other stakeholders.

Additionally, you will be responsible for performing the vital administrative duties within the service that ensure our clients have access to up-to-date information and other resources. This will include stocking of brochures, formatting of documents, maintaining file management systems, general office support, and reception duties.

Although the majority of your duties will be performed on-site at the NQWLS Townsville office, you will at times be required to travel to courts and other locations to perform intake and administrative services. You’ll be provided with access to a company vehicle for your time spent travelling for work purposes.

You will also be a strong administrator, with demonstrated experience engaging with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders, ideally within the community services industry or a related sector.

Other requirements include:

  • Open Driver’s Licence
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal history check
  • Willingness to work from our office in Townsville, QLD

Candidates with experience in processing clients and performing intake in a trauma-informed environment will be highly regarded.

The Benefits:

In addition to a competitive base salary, the successful candidate will enjoy the opportunity to join a dedicated and tight-knit team of professionals who are passionate about human rights and social justice.

Additional benefits include:

  • Access to a company vehicle for work-related travel
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • 3 days ex-gratia leave during Christmas and New Year period
