About the Opportunity

Bishop Brothers has an exciting international opportunity for a Technical Advisor to join their team in Port Moresby, PNG for a three year contract.

This is a hands-on role in which you will supervise and work as part of the Equipment Hire team on maintenance and repair of equipment. You will also provide efficient back-up to the Equipment Hire Manager during their absence.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the Equipment Hire team to ensure goals in the areas of safety, customer satisfaction, productivity, long-term profitability, month end deadlines and rework are achieved;
  • Travelling to remote sites to service or attend to breakdowns as required;
  • Communicating clearly and effectively between clients on remote sites;
  • Reporting / communicating with Hire Manager about site situations and workshop progress;
  • Maintaining morale within the workforce; and
  • Teaching, training and leading employees to achieve high machine efficiency and availability.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic with experience in hydraulic cranes and a supervisory background. You will have a hands-on approach, allowing you to work with local staff in the maintenance and repair of hire equipment. In addition, you will have an understanding of the civil, mining and construction sectors, along with problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills.

You will also require basic computer literacy and the ability to work effectively with a multicultural workforce. Bishop Brothers is seeking a candidate who is comfortable dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis, with the ability to negotiate short and long-term hire contracts.

This is a hands-on field role so the successful applicant will need the flexibility to travel between provinces and work on site from time to time.
