Marine Rescue NSW (MRNSW) is the State’s legislated marine rescue service, committed to the mission of saving lives on Australia’s busiest coastlines and waterways.

Boasting the largest and most advanced search and rescue fleet in Australasia, along with the most extensive marine VHF radio network, the 3,200 highly trained volunteers and staff in 46 strategically located units deliver this life-saving service 24/7/365.

MRNSW staff provide a well-resourced and close-knit management and support team function for our volunteer units as well as government and community partners and stakeholders.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Deputy Commissioner (Chief Operations Officer) to join the organisation in Cronulla, NSW on a permanent full-time basis.

Your Next Opportunity:

As the head of the frontline operations' chain of command, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of marine rescue services throughout NSW. Reporting to the Commissioner (Chief Executive Officer), you will lead a range of strategies and projects, including coordinating volunteer support, overseeing multi-million dollar fleet and communications upgrades, developing new training programs and resources, contributing to regulatory reviews, and developing operational and management systems and processes.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

We’re seeking a Senior Leader with a track record of success, especially in an operational capacity for volunteer, emergency service, or government/defence organisations. Experience in the marine industry will be highly regarded.

In addition to your relevant tertiary qualifications in Emergency Management, Maritime, Operational Management, or Business Management, you will have a deep understanding of the emergency management framework in NSW and the relevant legislation that governs MRNSW.

As a skilled communicator and collaborator, you'll be able to establish strong relationships at all levels, adapting your communication style to maintain community confidence and support. You'll have a proven ability to act as the head of a chain of command, disseminating clear information and setting guidelines for operations.

You'll be comfortable creating and disseminating various service-wide operations reports and procedures, ensuring that all members understand them. Ultimately, we're looking for a strategic leader who can drive our frontline operations forward and provide cohesive, proactive emergency services for the NSW community.
