Central Australian Women’s Legal Service provides legal services for all women in Central Australia and Barkly region with offices in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

About the Opportunity
CAWLS is recruiting for a full-time solicitor with experience to join our team delivering high-quality legal advice and casework to CAWLS clients. This position is based in Alice Springs.
Reporting to the Senior Management team, you will also provide representation services and assist clients with appropriate referrals to other agencies where necessary.
Core duties:
- Provide high-quality legal advice and representation within CAWLS areas of practice and guidelines including family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, employment, workplace sexual harassment and other civil matters.
- Assist to develop and maintain the law practice and its systems to ensure legal services align with the Centre’s practice modes, organisational priorities, professional responsibilities and funding obligations.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver holistic and wrap around services for clients including appropriate referrals to other services and agencies when necessary.
- Represent clients at the local court, in the Federal Circuit court and other tribunals as necessary and to assist with the provision of duty lawyer services.
- Undertake Outreach to provide legal advice and representation to women. May include some travel to remote locations as directed.
- Develop and maintain appropriate networks with relevant community-based organisations, engaging in partnership development activities in order to build awareness of the service for CAWLS clients.

About You
To be successful in this position you will have completed a Bachelor of Law degree and be eligible for a Practicing Certificate in the Northern Territory.
The successful candidate will also have practising experience in a broad range of matters, including Domestic & family violence, family law, employment and other civil law matters.
A confident and highly empathetic communicator, you will be able to support and relate to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Adapting your approach to each individual, you will be capable of explaining complex legal issues in clear, plain language; ensuring it is straightforward and understood by clients.
Driven and genuinely committed to CAWLS vision of a community free from violence and abuse, you will be an adaptable team player who enjoys working in a team environment as well as independently.
Finally, you will be highly flexible, with sound organisational skills and the ability to successfully manage the challenges of remote service delivery. You'll be able to work both autonomously and as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team, and be confident creating and maintaining strong relationships with other service providers or relevant organisations, working together to support your clients and communities.
