Blayney Shire Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to begin or restart their career as an Apprentice Parks and Recreation Operator. This full-time apprenticeship is ideal for school leavers, career changers, or mature-aged applicants seeking hands-on experience, skills development, and a long-term career in local government.
As part of our supportive team, you’ll gain practical skills, formal training, and recognised qualifications – all while working outdoors and making a meaningful contribution to your local community.
Key Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Parks and Recreation Operator, you will:
- Learn to safely operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment
- Assist with maintenance and repairs to Council facilities (including cleaning public amenities)
- Perform horticultural and other services, including physical labouring tasks.
- Contribute to team projects, attend meetings, and assist with continuous improvement
- Follow instructions, ensuring all tasks are carried out in a safe, timely, and high-quality manner
- Complete required documentation and training records accurately

This role is suited to individuals who are:
- Interested in working outdoors and in a hands-on environment
- Keen to develop technical skills in machinery operation
- Willing to learn and take part in on-the-job and formal training
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and follow safety procedures
- Motivated to build a long-term career in parks or local government sector

Essential Requirements
- A current driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one shortly
- A strong work ethic and positive attitude toward learning
- A commitment to completing training and safety requirements
- A SafeWork NSW White Card (Construction Induction Card) or willingness to obtain
