Oscar Romero Flexi Schools Network are part of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd. The Flexible Schools offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling.

EREA Flexi Schools now has multiple exciting opportunities for experienced middle and secondary teachers to join our Alice Springs centre, and are looking to advance their careers and make a difference in the lives of young people who have disengaged from the mainstream education system. 

How You’ll Make a Difference

EREA Flexi Schools now has multiple exciting opportunities for experienced middle and secondary teachers who are looking to advance their careers and make a difference in the lives of young people who have disengaged from the mainstream education system. 

In this role you will work alongside our collaborative team of teachers to educate and support the young people in our school. We have several classes grouped by gender and learning level, and we are looking for teachers for our male class, female class, and one of our mixed classes.

Our educators go above and beyond in delivering engaging educational programs and experiences for the young people on campus. On any given day, this includes coordinating adventure-based learning activities, transporting students, and of course supporting young people to achieve their learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Other day-to-day duties may include:

  • Assisting young people in accessing external support services 
  • Developing and implementing individualised learning activities
  • Assisting and supporting other staff members as needed 
  • Participating in the daily routines and activities of the FLC, including morning meetings, lunch, bus pick-up and drop-offs, electives, outings and camps

What You’ll Bring to the Team

We’re looking for tertiary qualified middle and senior school teachers who are interested in putting their skills and passion to work in a unique learning environment. Experience working in alternative schools or with disenfranchised youth would be an advantage.

You’ll be a passionate and empathetic individual who is able to turn curriculum objectives into creative and engaging learning activities that empower young people to learn and expand their horizons. 

Other requirements include:

  • Australian Teacher’s registration
  • A positive Australian Working with Children’s check
  • Experience teaching in middle/senior schools
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence

The following are not essential requirements but will be viewed favourably:

  • An understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural imperatives 
  • Experience in adventure-based learning to assist in engaging young people on campus
  • TAE qualification, to assist young people on campus in receiving further training  during their time with us (this qualification will be highly regarded when combined with another skillset or creative talent that can allow the young people to engage in different education pathways)
  • Post-graduate qualification in special education
  • Experience working with remote and/or disenfranchised communities
