About the Opportunity

FFA now has an exciting opportunity for a Fisheries Economics Advisor to join their team in Honiara, Solomon Islands, on a 3-year contract, with renewal subject to performance appraisals and availability of funding.

Reporting to the Director Fisheries Development, you will undertake economic research and analysis to support FFA member countries to maximize and measure the economic benefits gained from the management of their tuna resources and the development of their domestic tuna industries.

Core Duties:

  • Economic analysis and provision of advice on national fisheries management, development, and investment proposals
  • Analysis and advice on the economic aspects of regional and sub regional management arrangements for WCPO tuna fisheries 
  • Analysis and advice in relation to the economic impacts on FFA Members of climate change impacts on tuna stocks
  • Economic data collection, analysis and dissemination, including reporting on economic conditions in the WCPO tuna fisheries 
  • Designing and delivering national and regional training courses in fisheries and related economics

About You

To be successful in this role you will hold a post-graduate degree in economics or a fisheries/natural resource management discipline with strong economics content. 

You will have experience in the application of economics in fisheries management and/or development, particularly in the provision of economic input and analysis in the formulation of fisheries management measures, and the appraisal of costs and benefits of fisheries development projects.

With a proven history of researching, preparing and presenting submissions to national and international forums, you will have strong communication skills, both written and oral, and be capable of providing sound economic advice and explaining relevant concepts to a variety of audiences.

Your highly developed interpersonal skills will ensure you are able to build strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels. You will exhibit strong analytical skills, and be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite, to enable you to work with and present relevant information and data. 

Importantly, you will be able to work in a multidisciplinary and culturally diverse team and will demonstrate high levels of respect for individual and cultural differences.

You will be offered a competitive remuneration package circa USD$82,984 to USD$115,275.00 (tax-free, for citizens of most countries), commensurate with your skills and experience.

This includes superannuation, paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation.

Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year. 

Relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara, and accommodation assistance also available.

Annual airfares back to the country of repatriation will be provided, and a repatriation allowance of 2 weeks’ base salary on return to home base at the end of the contract. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary which will be paid on the completion of your contract.

On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!
