Responsibilities Include:

Intermediate Environmental Planner

  • Providing qualified advice and guidance to all customers on environmental planning issues and RMA implementation
  • Ensuring effective communication to customers is delivered in accordance with corporate response standards
  • Processing varied and, at times, complex resource consent applications
  • Maintaining a strong relationship with the development community (including internal TCC projects), iwi and hapu, stakeholders, and other agencies
  • Engaging and managing experts where necessary, e.g. Urban Designers and Landscape Architects to inform implementation matters and ensure effective project management 
  • Contributing to the development of the Council’s policies and strategic direction as they relate to environmental planning

Senior Environmental Planner

  • Providing senior expertise and technical direction on RMA and other relevant legislation
  • Ensuring effective communication to customers is delivered in accordance with corporate response standards
  • Maintaining a strong relationship with the development community (including internal TCC projects), iwi and hapu, stakeholders, and other agencies
  • Providing dedicated senior support to Junior Planners on complex applications and lead resolution of issues where necessary
  • Mentoring within the team and contributing to continuous improvement through business improvement initiatives
  • Processing significant resource consent applications where there are complex or original planning concepts with little or no precedent, including making recommendations that are robust and legally defensible
  • Reviewing Planner's reports and making decisions under delegation

What You'll Bring to the Team:

To be considered for the Intermediate Environmental Planner Position, you’ll need at least 3 years of experience in a similar role. For the Senior Environmental Planner position, you’ll need at least 5 years of demonstrated prior experience in a similar role. 

Both positions require a university-level tertiary qualification in resource management planning or a related discipline.

To excel in these roles, you'll need highly developed communication skills that enable you to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. Additionally, your strong organisational acumen will empower you to manage conflicting demands adeptly and make informed choices about resource allocation. Your ability to remain professional, composed, and solution-oriented will be pivotal in achieving successful outcomes for our community members and stakeholders alike.
