ALWS

Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) is the international humanitarian aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand (LCANZ). ALWS works with its partners in 12 countries, sponsoring long-term development programs in countries including Indonesia, PNG, Nepal, Myanmar, South Sudan and Burundi. ALWS also supports acute humanitarian emergencies in the world as they arise, such as the earthquake response in Turkeye, and prolonged humanitarian crises, like those impacted by the famine in the horn of Africa. ALWS has a particular focus on refugees and displaced people, and people with disability, people facing discrimination and injustice. ALWS enables Australians to reach out to the world’s most vulnerable people, living in poverty or facing injustice and in danger of being forgotten.

Our vision is of a world where love comes to life (see 1 John 4:9-12), a world where all people live in just societies, where we are all empowered to achieve our full potential, uphold our rights and the rights of others for a life with peace and dignity; and where we are all inspired to remember, welcome and support those who suffer from poverty and injustice (see Galatians 2:10 and Leviticus 25:35).

We aim to reach out in love, for justice, and our mission is to bring together people willing to work in service to help end suffering.
