Due to an exciting period of growth for our organisation, we are looking for a new Cultural Heritage Manager, Aboriginal Corporation to join our Karratha office full-time.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for the leadership and general management of the Country and Culture department. You will facilitate and implement our board's vision through our strategic plan.
This busy department is responsible for the development and implementation of RRKAC’s cultural heritage and environmental plans and activities, including leading cultural heritage surveys, implementing our Healthy Country Plan through land management and ranger activities, the delivery of cultural awareness training, and the delivery of strategic heritage projects focusing on inter-generational knowledge transfer, and the protection of areas of cultural significance. The Manager is also responsible for ensuring the implementation of, and compliance with, multiple Indigenous Land Use Agreements.
You will report to and collaborate with the COO as a part of RRKAC Executive Team, with whom you will work closely to analyse and strategise various projects and initiatives in line with strategic objectives. Additionally, you will have direct engagement with the passionate Heritage Advisory Committee, ensuring that our activities align with the community's needs and values.
This role will suit a committed, high-performing individual with a demonstrated ability to deliver high impact programs and activities that that ensure Aboriginal people are at the centre of caring for and managing their Country.
About You
To qualify, you must have proven management experience with a preferred background in Native Title. Qualifications in Law, Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field are desirable. Above all else you will have a proven track record in senior roles where you have demonstrated an ability to multitask, coordinate, and manage large projects and day to day operations, along with the strong communication skills needed to liaise with community leaders and negotiate with industry.
The following attributes will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- Provides adept senior management-level support and guidance
- Experience in mentoring, managing and developing team
- Background working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture, and a culturally sensitive approach
- A current driver’s license
- Retain or ability to obtain a police check
- Experience working within an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community (asset)
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance and non-profit (asset)
- Knowledge of The Keeping Place software (asset)
- Understanding cultural protocols (asset)
Your emotional intelligence and well-developed interpersonal skills will be crucial in handling passionate and challenging conversations with community members and leaders. Your flexibility and adaptability will enable you to navigate this role successfully.
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a commitment to the objectives and values of the RRKAC, demonstrate respect for Aboriginal culture, and be willing to learn from Aboriginal community members, and other RRKAC team members.
