Our Mission:
For 25 years, KWILS has passionately served women and non-binary individuals in the Big Rivers Region (NT). We provide free civil legal advice, representation, and comprehensive support services, promoting gender equality and fighting violence against women. Our advocacy and community education efforts challenge harmful cultural practices and work towards meaningful legal and cultural changes.

How You’ll Make a Difference:
As our next Practice Lead, you'll be at the forefront of positive change in your chosen realm of expertise, guiding and inspiring our dedicated team of Lawyers in matters directly aligned with your focus.
The Practice Lead positions are available in three distinct domains: Family Law, Children in Need of Protection (CINOP), and Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence (DFSV). Each role presents a unique opportunity for you to lead impactful initiatives, contributing to the advancement of justice and support for vulnerable women throughout Katherine.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality legal advice, information, referrals, representation and casework to clients, particularly in complex or litigious matters
- Providing training, mentoring and supervision of Solicitors as directed by the Managing Lawyer
- Conducting regular outreach services within Katherine, including attendance at the Katherine local court, Katherine Women’s Crisis Centre, Katherine Police Station, and other related services such as homelessness, health, and family services
- Representing KWILS in a variety of public forums to promote the work of the service, including network meetings and consultations
- Planning, designing and delivering Community Legal Education workshops and associated materials to community groups and organisations
- Undertaking Acting Managing Lawyer duties as required, e.g. when Managing Lawyer is on leave

What You’ll Bring to the Team:
To be considered for these positions, you will need a minimum of 4 years of post-admission experience, OR 3 years of experience in a related field (i.e. Family Law, Child Protection, and Family or Sexual Violence).
You’ll also have highly developed communication skills and a passion for social justice, with the ability to work in a trauma-informed environment.
